POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director, Field Reimbursement is part of the Commercial organization and responsible for supporting appropriate patient access to care. The focus is on helping large institutions, healthcare provider practices, and key accounts navigate the complex access and reimbursement landscape within the oncology and urology markets. The ideal candidate will use their subject matter expertise to identify appropriate solutions and educate customers to ensure that the right patients have access to the right medications at the right time and at the right out-of-pocket cost. This is an external, custom-facing role centered on partnering with field sales and internal colleagues to support accounts as needed.

The Field Reimbursement team utilizes approved educational resources to explain complex reimbursement issues related to coverage, coding, and practice efficiency/optimization. Thes may include reimbursement guides (coverage and coding), specialty pharmacy and distribution processes, provider support services (e.g., benefits investigation), and patient support resources (e.g., patient assistance programs). The team are important contributors to the overall success of the oncology and urology sales teams and Accord BioPharma.

The Director, Field Reimbursement will work within their team to monitor national and local healthcare payer policies, develop relationships with key advocacy leaders, state societies, and provide direct support to prescribing physicians, hospitals and support staff regarding reimbursement and product access and reimbursement dynamic within payer channels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in hospitals and oncology/urology practices, including physicians, pharmacists, hospital administrators, and formulary committees.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor and analyze market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to identify opportunities and challenges, adjusting sales strategies as needed.
  • Compliance: Ensure thorough understanding and adherence to all relevant compliance laws, policies, and processes, maintaining full compliance for self and team.
  • Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams, including marketing, oncology and urology sales colleagues, and medical affairs, to develop and implement effective access and reimbursement strategies.
  • Reporting: Keep accurate and timely records of activities, customer interactions, and market intelligence, and report regularly to the Commercial team.
  • Training and Development: Engage in ongoing training programs to enhance healthcare market knowledge and business communication skills.
  • Presentations: Deliver product presentations, educational programs, and in-service training for healthcare professionals to increase awareness and understanding of access and reimbursement issues relevant to our product portfolio.
  • Formulary Approval: Support hospitals in the formulary review process by providing necessary documentation, clinical data, and value propositions to secure favorable product inclusion.
  • Market Access and Affordability: Utilize knowledge of Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) contracts to navigate the healthcare landscape and maximize product access and affordability.
  • Patient Services: Collaborate with patient services colleagues to ensure a patient-centric approach in all sales activities.
  • Feedback: Provide insights to internal teams on customer needs, market dynamics, and competitor activities to support product development and commercialization efforts.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The requirements listed below are representative of the experience, education, knowledge, skill and/or abilities required:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university required. MBA, PharmD, MPA, MPH, or other Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience and/or Training: At least 10 years of commercial experience in the pharmaceutical, market access, or biotech industry preferred. Biosimilar and generic experience is strongly preferred.
  • Channel and Payer Experience: At least 5 years in healthcare market access, billing and coding, and/or reimbursement are preferred. Experience with infusible Buy & Bill required. Advanced knowledge of Medicare Part B, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, Medicare Part D, commercial medical and pharmacy benefit required. Contracting experience with hospitals and institutional customers, healthcare provider practices, 340B, and GPO/wholesalers is desired but not required.
  • Therapeutic Area Experience: Oncology experience required; urology experience preferred.
  • Licenses/Certificates: Clean Driving Record.
  • Technology/Equipment Computer Skills: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and videoconferencing platforms.

PHARMACEUTICAL AND ONCOLOGY-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Product Knowledge: Stay informed about the latest oncology and urology products, treatments, and industry trends to provide accurate information and support to the team.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with pharmaceutical industry regulations and standards, including FDA guidelines and other relevant authorities.
  • Clinical Collaboration: Work closely with clinical teams to understand and communicate the clinical benefits and applications of oncology products.
  • Organized Customers: Maintain a strong understanding of IDNs, GPO contracts, 340B, and the hospital formulary approval process.
  • Patient Focus: Prioritize patient safety and efficacy in all sales activities, maintaining a patient-centric approach in all interactions.
